About the Business
Cyclesense was born in 1991, fulfilling the childhood dream of David Stainthorpe. Dave had always wanted a bike shop, as a child he used to take bikes apart, swap bits and sell them to his friends. Slowly, but surely, Dave built the business up starting in his garage at home in Thorner and trading on Dewsbury Market with just £600 worth of stock.
By 1995 Cyclesense had become very well established. Its reputation built on value and service. It was time to move to some proper retail premises. Cyclesense moved to Tadcaster, the home of Samuel Smiths, John Smiths and Coors breweries. The shop was 500sqft and at the time had more than enough room for Dave. Business blossomed in Tadcaster and soon Paul (Dave's oldest) joined the business. The time soon came to hire a full time mechanic so Ian Kirby joined the team.
Cyclesense moved to its current location on Tadcaster High Street in 2001.
